Whats is Microsoft Secure Score and why should we care?

Microsoft Secure Score is a measurement of an organization’s security posture, with a higher number indicating more improvement actions taken. It can be found at in the Microsoft 365 security center.

Secure Score makes recommendations can protect an organization from threats to their Microsoft 365 tenancy. A centralized dashboard in the Microsoft 365 security center allows organizations to monitor and work on the security of their Microsoft 365 identities, data, apps, devices, and infrastructure.

Secure Score helps organizations:

  • Report on the current state of the organization’s security posture.
  • Improve their security posture by providing discoverability, visibility, guidance, and control.
  • Compare with benchmarks and establish key performance indicators (KPIs).

All organizations gain access to robust visualizations of metrics and trends, integration with other Microsoft products, score comparison with similar organizations, and much more. What more could you really ask for, this is the information and data that arms you with the information to be as secure as possible.

The below screenshot from my own personal Microsoft 365 Security Center where I have 30 users. So my score is above what other similar organizations are doing, this is a comparison that Microsoft has proved.

Improvement Actions

Improvements allow you to address all the things Microsoft believe would improve your security posture within Microsoft 365. This process is very simple to complete, first of select the issue you would to address.

Addressing Issues

Once you have opened the issue you should receive a similar view to below, you can assign this action to someone within your organisation, understand the user impact and who will be affect. So if you have an internal CAB this will help populate your change request and its also provide the implementation steps.

Microsoft really couldnt of made it easier for you.


This provides an overview of the changes that may of happened whether they was implemented by Microsoft or a person from you organisation.

Metrics and trends

This does exactly want it says on the tin providing metrics and trends data to compare your environment at a glance or in detail.
